#seektodraw Discover new new species of leaves and illustrate them with the kids!
#seektodraw is the new hashtag I started on Instagram this week, to encourage parents to go out into their local woodlands to find different species of leaves, which can be identified using the ‘Seek’ app that I downloaded onto my iPhone.
This creative exercise I put together for parents was inspired by finding interesting things to do over the summer holidays with my daughter.
Being a professional illustrator and lover of the outdoors, I want to encourage people to get outdoors and discover places in their local areas. Find lots of leaves and then take them home to illustrate or collage them.
Everyone will feel rejuvenated from a lovely walk in nature and creativity will be gathered to start the task. So let’s begin!
Watch this video I put together, showing our little adventure into Shere woodlands where we discovered species of leaves and then took them back home to draw.
Before we start, you will need the following:
Paper
Scissors
Paint
Seek App or an alternative plant discovering app on your phone.
#seektodraw leaf drawing activity for kids on summer holidays. Join in with the fun with this creative exercise where kids also explore nature and discover new leaves.
We walked around the beautiful countryside near Shere in the Surrey Hills. This was one of the photos we took from our walk.
This was our collection of leaves we found on our walk. Some of them dried up by the time we started to illustrate and collage them, but we could still see the details in them.
This was my daughter’s first collage of a Pin Oak leaf we discovered in Shere Woodlands. We used the Seek app on my phone to identify the species of the leaf.
Please share your experiences with me and your lovely leaf collages and illustrations on my instagram. Use the hastag #seektodraw so I can find you. Tag me on instagram @erin.donohoe
